The Rigging Of The Gold Market?

On Tuesday, April 16th, the Telegraph’s Thomas Pascoe informed us that “the gold price crash is further evidence of market rigging.” Pascoe worked in both the Lloyd’s of London insurance market and in corporate finance before joining the Telegraph and obviously has experience to back up his perspectives. His main point is that “facts in the public domain do not justify the sharp fall in the gold price over the past two trading days.”

Can’t Repeal Obamacare? Then Avoid The 3.8% OBAMACARE Net Investment Income Tax

Repeal Obamacare! I am not in the prediction business so I won’t comment on the likelihood of Obamacare being repealed. Besides, we focus on things that you, the individual, can do today. Wishing to repeal Obamacare isn’t taking action. Avoiding the 3.8% Obamacare net investment income tax? Now that is something we can do right now! Our mantra when it comes to taxes is AVOID not EVADE! The former is perfectly legal (and just common sense)…what does it benefit you to pay more taxes than you absolutely have to? The later is illegal and just plain ill-advised, we have never and will never encourage tax evasion!

Ms. Thatcher Was Just the Beginning | Smashing Keynesian Economics

The Economist tells us that Margaret Thatcher smashed the Keynesian consensus but when we look around the world today, we don’t see much that resembles a real free market. In the US, Keynesian stimulation is the norm and so it is in Britain and Europe. Around the world several hundred central banks print money – without ever knowing how much is enough and how much is too much.

Where in the World Are the Adventurous Developers? (Investing In Ecuador)

I recently caught up with a new friend of mine, a real estate investment consultant in Ecuador, about what was going on in his part of the world. We talked about this and that for a while but soon enough (as it usually does when we speak) the conversation turned into a discussion about undervalued business opportunities. As we spoke my friends voice got louder, more excited. "There is money to be made in building and real estate development in Ecuador right now…and not many people are doing it!" I have to say that his enthusiasm was contagious, and by the end of the call I was tempted to jump on the next plane to Ecuador!

Britain’s Austerity – Investors Beware (News from the Contrarian)

Numerous posts including this one from the Nation report on Britain’s new austerity measures. The most recent involves families that will receive fewer benefits if their houses include a spare room. The government has labeled the so-called bedroom tax an “under-occupancy penalty.” Apparently, the idea is that if you can afford a spare bedroom, you are not in as much need of government aid as those who don’t have additional bedroom space.

Cyprus: Chasing the wrong culprit?

Der Spiegel reminds us that the fallout from Cyprus continues. The decision of Brussels to encourage Cyprus officials to confiscate up to 60 percent or more of the funds of big depositors is going to have long-term effects – beyond what was intended.
